William A. Griswold Jr. passed to heaven at home surrounded by family on February 1, 2014. He was born September 13, 1936 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. His parents later moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, where he remained through high school.
Bill joined the Army and served three years, half of it in Korea at a radio transmitter compound outside of Seoul. Upon returning home he started dating Karen while she was still in high school. They both graduated from the University of Minnesota and were married in 1961.
Bill's mechanical engineering degree led him to jobs with power plants in various places. When he was a power plant test engineer in the middle of coal fields in the southwestern corner of Virginia, they started their family with their first two sons, Stuart and Wayne.
He transferred to the Steubenville, Ohio area and worked many hours at the start-up of a new power plant. The next transfer was to a power company home office in New York City as a design engineer, where he worked on the 87th floor of the World Trade Center.
Bill and Karen experienced suburban living in northern New Jersey, and completed their family with a third son, Brian. They were very active with a Bible teaching ministry, traveling to retreats and assisting with a theological correspondence course.
Bill was then transferred to Stuart, Florida, as technical support for a nuclear power plant. Sailing was a favorite pastime. After retiring, he taught and tutored college algebra, which developed into a satisfying second career.
To enjoy their later years Bill, Karen and Stuart chose to move to the Ozarks in Missouri to live on a farm near son Wayne and his wife Susie and the eight grandchildren. His brother Greg and wife Tamara moved to the area a few years later. Bill was an active volunteer with the skyline Fire Department. He also taught and tutored College Algebra at MSU until last May.
Raising a Christian family has been a focus of Bill's life. His grandchildren Michael, Alexandra, Elisabeth, Josiah, Joshua, Jonathan, Jacob and Lydia are special blessings.
There will be a service celebrating Bill's life on Thursday, February 6th at 5:30 pm at Skyline Full Gospel Church. Memorials may be made to Skyline Volunteer Fire Department.
