William Thomas "Bill" Chandler
Squires, MO

William Thomas "Bill" Chandler, 94 years, 4 months, and 8 days old, passed to heaven on October 26, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, AR with his family by his side.

"Bill" was born June 18, 1920 in Toledo, MO to Olvie and Delta (Daniels) Chandler. He graduated from Thornfield High School and was later drafted in the United States Army in 1941. At the onset of WWII, he served in the battles and campaigns of Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland, Normandy and Northern France. One of the more notable battles he was in was the Battle of Bulge. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after being decorated with five Bronze Stars and six Overseas Service Bars for meritorious service during combat operations.

On August 24, 1946 Bill and Louise Turner were united in marriage in Mountain Home, AR and to this union three daughters were born.

Bill was a mechanic at Holmes Ford in Mansfield and Sallee Ford in Ava for many years. He loved fishing, hunting, going to church, gardening, farming, eating out, family gatherings and fixing or repairing anything tore up or broken. Bill was a Christian and attended the Frye Community Church in Squires.

"Bill" was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leonard and Finis, sisters, Marie Chandler, Freda Dibben, Beulah Rushing, and Eva Hesley.


"Bill" is survived by his wife, Louise of 68 years of marriage, three daughters and their spouses, Chris & Jim Dancy, Beverly & Tom Hodges, Jeannie & Terry Watkins all of Squires, MO, five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great great grandson and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for "Bill" will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Military Honors by Troy Herd American Legion Post 112. Officiating will be Rev. Vernon Fuller. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
