WILLIAM HENRY WOOD
William Henry Wood, 91, passed from this life on Friday, April 5, 2019 at home in Marshfield, MO after a long battle with heart disease. He was born on January 30, 1928, to Maurice and Ada Wood near Gainesville, MO. William was united in marriage on April 7, 1950 to Velda Rene Newton. William and Velda lived near Gainesville for 53 years. To this union two children were born, Phyllis Wood Fisher and Jody Wood.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by a daughter Phyllis Fisher and husband Paul of Marshfield, MO; two grandchildren, Jennifer King and husband Jarrod of Marshfield, MO, and Jeff Fisher of Marshfield, MO. He also leaves behind four great grandchildren, Miley Fisher, Jonah King, Julianne King and Jensen King all of Marshfield, MO. Other survivors are two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Bradley of Mountain Home, AR, and Karen Wood of Kansas City, MO, and one brother-in-law, Alfred Newton of Gainesville, MO. Also surviving are four nieces, Tammy Mitchell and husband Perry; Tina Killian and husband Larry; Allison Lawson and husband Randall; and Heather Ford and husband James; three nephews Aaron Newton, Reathel Bean and wife Holly, and Jim Wood and wife Maryann; and numerous grand nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.
William served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea for some time. William lived in the Pine Creek area and near Gainesville for most of his life before moving to Marshfield, MO in 2016 to be near his family. He taught school in Ozark County, MO for 42 years before retiring. He also coached baseball and basketball for many years.
William was a long-time member of the Smith Chapel church of Christ and Marshfield church of Christ and loved his Lord and his spiritual family. William loved hunting and fishing, carpentry and woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Smith Chapel church of Christ with Clayton King officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in the Smith Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening, April 8th from 5-7 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Fair Haven Children's Home, 3132 N. Fair Haven Loop, Strafford, MO 65757, or to the Smith Chapel Cemetery Fund.
